When is the Open Enrollment in California?

Open Enrollment in California for year 2020 is 

October 15, 2019 - January 31, 2020. 

You can buy a health plan during this time or change your existing coverage. After January 31, 2020 you will no longer be able to apply for health insurance unless you have a "Qualifying Life Event" 

Find a Health Plan that Works for You

Bronze Plans

 On average, your health plan pays 60 percent of your medical expenses, and you pay 40 percent. 

Silver Plans

 On average, your health plan pays 70 percent of your medical expenses, and you pay 30 percent.  

Gold Plans

 On average, your health plan pays 80 percent of your medical expenses, and you pay 20 percent. 

Platinum Plans

On average, your health plan pays 90 percent of your medical expenses, and you pay 10 percent.

Enhanced Silver Plans

Based on income - available only at CoveredCa.  The plan pays either 94 percent, 87 percent or 73 percent of expenses, with the enrollee responsible for the rest. 

Minimum coverage plan

 If you are under 30, you may be able to buy an additional health insurance plan option called minimum coverage plan.

Do I have to Pay a Tax Penalty for not having insurance?

Federal tax reform legislation was signed into law on December 22, 2017 and contains a provision that eliminates the individual mandate penalty starting in year 2019. The penalty will be applied for year 2020 for California and a few other states. Read more on our blog
